Congress must make the Laws.
Washington continually usurps our Constitution to favor unique special interest groups all the time. Instead of Congress making the laws, we now have a court system legislating from the bench (and a Congress that seems willing to allow it).
Take abortion as an example. There is no Constitutional right for an abortion. However, the US Supreme Court "invented" this "right" out of thin air. By saying that an unborn child is not a "person" they made the 14th amendment null-and-void for the unborn. As the 14th amendment states, "All persons born or naturalized in the United States are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside." Under the 14th Amendment, a person has the full protection of United States law. The Supreme Court observed, however, that "if the suggestion of personhood is established, [that the fetus is a "person"] the appellant's case, of course, collapses, for the fetus' right to life would then be guaranteed specifically by the Amendment." For more information please read "A Treatise on Human Life, An Unalienable Right" written by Harold D. Kletschka, M.D. We have allowed our Court of "last resort" to make an incredibly grave and inhumane determination that our unborn children are not persons! Unbelievable! If you consider me to be a conservative extremist because I love and support human life at its earliest stages, then I thank you for the compliment.
All Americans deserve to be born and to live their life as securely, peacefully and productively as possible. If we as Americans cannot support, uphold and protect the lives of the weakest and frailest of our citizens, how then can we truly expect to act in a rational, ethical and supportive manner in other important issues of our country and in the world?
What does pro-life mean to me? We need to recognize that the life that is conceived in the womb of a mother, the uniting of a human sperm and a human egg, is, in fact, at that very moment, the birth of a new human being with its own unique DNA. It is not a donkey or an elephant but a human being that resides in this country and in his first home, his mother's womb. We need to recognize that people challenged with physical or mental conditions, people weak from chronic or terminal diseases, or people that are simply slowing down in the midst of the aging process are valuable members of our society and need to be treated and helped with dignity and respect.
How do we treat them with respect? Currently, killing newly conceived and growing American babies is called "embryonic stem cell research" and promoted it as sound and good science. Science has shown that successful medical and scientific advancements are coming from adult stem-cell research, not embryonic. Also, science has viable means of obtaining stem cells that do not at all involve the killing of developing American babies. We need to promote responsible research that respects human life.
We need to bring to light the reality of abortion, especially late term abortion. It is a brutal act of hate against the frailest of lives. As unreal as it may seem, there has actually been debate of what to do with a child that actually survives an abortion. In other words, should that child that is born alive still be murdered simply because the woman who gave birth to the baby does not want it? We can no longer ignore the reality of what Roe v. Wade has wrought. If the Supreme Court cannot reverse this bad law, then I will fight for a Constitutional amendment that protects the rights of our unborn babies. I will also fight to help those forgotten women who are forced to face a decision of whether or not to have an abortion as well as those affected by their abortions. Sadly, the "caring about women's rights liberals" have forgotten to mention the profound effect this act has on the mothers after the abortion of their child. Please visit www.silentnomoreawareness.org to learn more about how mothers suffer after having an abortion. We must reach out and help these women to find comfort, strength and healing from the guilt they carry because of their decision to "choose."
My wife and I have had first hand experience in caring for my terminally ill mother and step-father, both of whom died of cancer in 2007. This experience solidified my belief that all life, even that of severely ill people who cannot care for their own needs, is valuable. Many in this country seem to think that we need to "pull the plug" on some people simply because the person may seem a burden to themselves or to others. In their last months, my parents grew in love for each other, for their love of God, and their family. This growth was invaluable to them. How did we benefit from the added expense, added work, sleepless nights, lack of free time and all the other burdens placed on the caregivers of the terminally ill? I was able to understand my Mom and Step-dad in ways I never thought I would. I grew in my faith, in my appreciation of how important a tender word can be and in my knowledge of how important my community of family and friends can be in times of need.
"How far you go in life depends on your being tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving and tolerant of the weak and strong. Because someday in your life you will have been all of these."
George Washington Carver
As a country, I truly believe that we have to regain this love of our neighbor and the knowledge that we have to work hard sometimes to show we care for those around us. It is not always easy. If we as a nation go in the direction of not helping, respecting and supporting our citizens in need and instead move towards allowing their elimination, we all lose.
Establishing a Secure Border.
Our government has failed us miserably by not securing our border. It is unbelievable that our elected representatives have sat on their hands while millions have crossed our borders illegally. I will fight for you to secure our border now. Without a secure America, we will lose our freedoms and our unique way of life.
Military Strength and Security.
I will work hard to promote a strong and up-to-date military that is prepared to protect us from harm, from wherever it comes. We must also continue the fight against fanatical Islam wherever it is found, because they will not stop their terror due to good intentions or "political correctness" on our part. It is a simple fact that they want repressive Sharia law here in America. They are steadily gaining much of what they want in Europe and Canada right now. We must not let that happen here! It is a fact that we are a Christian nation and we hold Christian values and beliefs; it is what this country was founded on and has served us well for over 200 years and will continue to do so.
The federal government must reign in its massive and unchecked spending. I will demand that Washington stop its spending binge and let us keep more of our hard earned money. We know how to spend our money better than they do.
We need a simplified tax code that is easier for all of us and lets us keep more of our hard earned money. Washington thinks the money coming into the Treasury is "public" money. I've got news for them - it is private money they are taking from us and Washington must account for our money. They must stop their over spending. It is time that Washington becomes a more responsible steward with our hard earned money. The government's burdensome tax code and over regulation are driving away many businesses to foreign nations and penalizing hard working entrepreneurs. Simplification of the tax code and regulations coupled with a reduction in taxation would encourage investment in America and make us the best place on Earth to do business.
Social Security is broken and Washington knows it. They are afraid to touch the current system because they think they will be voted out of office if they try to fix it and they will lose funding for their "pet" projects. Again, they are politicians concerned more about their own re-election than in doing what is needed to fix this system. Sadly, the Democrat party likes to paint the picture that Republican's want to take away our retired Mothers, Fathers and Grandparents Social Security income. Our fellow retired and soon to be retired citizens have paid their fair share into the system and nobody is going to take that away! This nation needs a new, responsible system for those who will be retiring after us. What's wrong with that?
We must create personal accounts that will create real, portable wealth owned by each taxpayer if they choose to enroll in the program. Wouldn't you rather own and control your personal account than let the government control it? The incumbent says this would only benefit Wall Street due to investment and management fees they would earn. That type of reasoning is plain wrong. Personal accounts would be owned by the taxpayer and not Washington. Washington would not be able to spend your money because you would own it (now that is a lockbox we can all live with). This is something my opponent feels should not happen. He is cut from the same old tired political cloth that believes big government knows how to spend your hard earned money better than you do.
English should be the official language of the United States of America - enough said.
I believe every American should be given an education voucher (or similar device) so that we can send our children to the school of our choice. Washington thinks the money we are sending them is theirs. It is your money! Demand results! It is amazing that they think they know better than you where your child should go to school. Big government education needs competition and you will get it with school vouchers. Democrats and liberal elite teachers unions are not looking out for our children, they are only looking out for themselves. We need change now or our children will continue to lag intellectually in the increasingly competitive world market. Our children are the future of America - it is time to invest in our children our way.
The federal government has done very little in supporting and promoting traditional family values. The traditional family is the foundation of our society. You certainly will not find traditional values being taught in big government public education. Public education prefers to teach our children "counter cultural" values. If you are a Christian, well heaven forbid, don't talk about Jesus in public because it might be "hurtful" to others. Amazingly, these same liberals do not consider it "hurtful" to the Christians when the schools are allowed not to talk in supposed support of gay rights. There are too many elected officials, including Ron Kind, who think it is "intolerant" or "divisive" or not "inclusive" to support the traditional American family or traditional values. They talk about "celebrating diversity" - but celebrating the part of diversity that includes our Christian heritage is, to them, out of the question. That, my friends, is to them "politically incorrect" and they will have none of it. Quite simply, marriage is and should be between one man and one woman - period! Because of a growing activist court system that is inappropriately legislating from the bench, I will support a federal marriage amendment that would support and keep alive our traditional American values.
Dr. Martin Luther King stated that he wanted his children to "live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character."
The true measure of a society is how that society treats all of its citizens, including the unborn. All people in America are endowed with equal dignity by their creator and should be treated with equal protection under the law. We must ensure that the dignity of all life is preserved and that Washington treats all of her citizens equally.
Let us, together, bring real common sense, a Stark Change, to Washington.
Elect Paul Stark for Congress and I will work for you and for the interests of the Third District of Wisconsin.
