I am an every day guy living in Western Wisconsin working to make the lives of my family the best they can be. This is the American dream. Freedom to choose the path we desire. It is attainable with a government that stays out of our business.
My family and I ask very little from government. We work hard, we enjoy and rely on each other, we value our family, we stay out of trouble with the law and we pay more in taxes than what we get back in return.
I'm tired of the same old business as usual from Washington and the politicians who work there. It seems to me that politicians must lay awake in bed at night dreaming of new ways to spend our hard earned money. The Democrats, and too many Republicans for that matter, have not shown us good and lasting results with our money. Program after government program is a dismal failure yet they want more and more of our money - my money, your money - to fund their expensive projects (See Einstein's Theory of Insanity). I'm tired of the outcomes and insanity of Washington.
So instead of complaining about the lack of leadership in Washington and waiting for someone else with a spine to take charge, I have decided to do something about it. That is why I am running for Congress: to represent you, the fine hard working people of Western Wisconsin.
The 12 year incumbent, Mr. Kind (D-WI), is a significant participant in the problems we face today in Washington. Citizens Against Government Waste has given the incumbent a very low rating of 18%. They also publish the annual "Congressional Pig Book" listing the costs that working taxpayers like you and I have to pay for because of Congress's willing appetite to freely spend our money on special interests. For the 2007 budget, Congress spent $17,200,000,000 (that's billions my friends) of our money on 11,160 different pork barrel projects. The average member of Congress spent $39,540,230 in the budget on pork. Per this report, Mr. Kind, who is calling himself a "reformer", spent $43,900,000 in the 2007 budget alone! He spent more than the average member in Congress. Mr. Kind is not a reformer, he is a BIG Spender.
When we look for a leader in any field of endeavor, we must look at what a person actually does, not just what they say. By their fruits, you will know them.
WHY IS PORK SPENDING BAD?
According to Citizens Against Government Waste, "Pork spending is a form of corruption, where tax dollars are dolled out on the basis of political favoritism and to advance the careers of Washington's insiders," like Mr. Kind. "Waste and abuse have proliferated in the absence of transparency. Pork awards special interests at the expense of taxpayers. Pork results in a biased redistribution of taxpayer dollars."
The incumbent claims he is for lower taxes for Western Wisconsin's taxpayers but his actions don't follow his rhetoric. Mr. Kind has been very unkind to taxpayers during his 12 years in office.
Americans for Tax Reform has given the incumbent a rating of 23% (a 100% rating would mean strong tax reform i.e. saving us money). He also was given the "Enemy of the Taxpayer Award" - not something to be proud of in my opinion. With a record like this to show for his actions, Mr. Kind is certainly not a reformer; he is a professional politician looking out for his career, his legacy and his special interests. He is not looking out for you - but I will!
